What Is Tunable White COB LED? CCT Control Explained
Tunable White (TW) LED technology provides continuously adjustable correlated color temperature (CCT) — typically from warm white around 2700K to cool daylight around 6500K — in a single light source. Instead of swapping gels or choosing between two fixed-temperature fixtures, one TW source covers the entire white range.
How Tunable White Works
A tunable white LED combines two light engines in one package:
- a warm channel (e.g. 2700K phosphor-converted white)
- a cool channel (e.g. 6500K phosphor-converted white)
By proportionally driving the two channels, any intermediate CCT is produced. The control law matters: a naive linear mix causes green shifts in the middle of the range, so quality TW modules use calibrated mixing curves that hold the Duv (distance from the Planckian locus) close to zero across the whole range.
Why COB Packaging Matters for TW
In TW COB LED modules, the warm and cool dies are interleaved under one phosphor dome, so both channels share a single light-emitting surface. The benefits:
- No color shadow: discrete warm/cool SMD pairs create visible color separation at short throw distances; a COB does not.
- One reflector, one lens: the optical system sees a single source for both channels.
- Uniform beam: color mixing is complete before the light leaves the module.
Key Specifications to Compare

|---|---|---|
| CCT range | Endpoints and continuity | 2700K–7000K in multi-range platforms |
| CRI | Across the whole range, not at one point | Up to 98 at key CCTs |
| Duv | Distance from Planckian locus when mixing | MacAdam 3-step class or better |
| Power span | Model family coverage | 7W–700W platform families |
| Channel balance | Output consistency warm-to-cool | Calibrated mixing curves |
CCT Line Options in TYANSHINE TW Platforms
TYANSHINE Tunable White COB LED platforms ship in multiple CCT windows, including:
- Line 1: 2700K–6000K, 2700K–7000K and 3000K–5500K variants
- Line 2: 1800K–4000K, 2700K–4000K and 3000K–4000K variants for warm-leaning applications
Specialized configurations are covered on dedicated pages: high-CRI TW (CRI up to 98), constant-voltage TW for simplified driver integration, and high-power TW for large fixtures.
Typical Applications
- Broadcast and film: matching daylight and tungsten sources within one scene
- Architectural: human-centric lighting that follows daylight CCT through the day
- Retail and museum: tuning accent color temperature per display
- Studio photography: one softbox that covers every white balance scenario
